Despite the EU's decision to restrict simplified protection for men of conscription age, around another 6,000 such individuals arrived in Germany during the summer of 2026. This is evidenced by data from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF), cited by Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland.
In June, there were 413,633 of them; in July — 416,409; in August — 419,613. Overall, at the end of August, 1,358,212 people who arrived in connection with the war in Ukraine were in Germany (at the beginning of the year — around 1.33 million).
At the end of July, the EU Council excluded men of conscription age from the automatic right to temporary protection. Simplified rules are now available to those who have completed military service or have an exemption; a stamp in the passport or official confirmation of lawful departure from Ukraine is required.
The restrictions primarily affect men aged 23–60, for whom a travel ban is in effect in Ukraine. The new requirements mainly apply to new arrivals; those who already have status in the EU are generally not affected by these changes.
The material was prepared based on reports from German media (BAMF / RND), mid-September 2026.
